A Bit About Brenda

From the age of six, Brenda had one longing in life: to become a ballerina.

When she wasn't dancing or at school, you could find her up in the syringa tree of her Johannesburg home, reading, writing poems and short stories or drawing. As a young teenager she won a place at the Royal Ballet School, left her beloved country and set sail for London.

On completing her training, but having grown too tall for ballet, she kissed that idea goodbye and headed south again for the next big adventure in her life - romance! She was only seventeen and in the first week of her Bachelor of Arts studies in English and French at the University of Cape Town when she met her husband-to-be.

Marriage followed not long after graduation, and soon she found herself the happy but harried mother of four.

A city girl, she never ever imagined becoming a farmer's wife, but some years later, there she was in the winelands having given up her modelling job, standing in the kitchen of the Cape Dutch homestead, churning butter with a litter of kittens under her feet. At this time a new dream appeared: to become an author.

This was put on hold as Brenda continued to devote herself to keeping her family healthy and happy.

Until, some years ago, she and her husband immigrated to Toronto. The vibrant literary scene brought opportunities and instruction. She was able to complete the first draft of what was to become 'Cape Town'.

In response to many requests for a sequel, she has recently completed a companion novel. Stay tuned!

More likely four or five?
